Number Of Ingredients 10

1 orange cut into 1/8" slices (baked and dried as per instructions below)
3 raw cinnamon sticks
2 star anise, whole
20 cloves, whole
10 peppercorns
1/2 tsp allspice
1 bottle red wine, like a Cabernet Sauvignon
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup orange juice (optional)
1 spice sachet, as above

Steps:

  • Dry the orange slices in the oven. After cutting into 1/8" slices, bake in a 200 degree oven for 2-3 hours.
  • Mix the spices together in a piece of cheesecloth that has been doubled up. Tie it off with twine.
  • Add the sugar, dried orange slices, and spice sachet inside of a plastic cookie bag and tie off with twine.
  • Attach the printable instruction tags and the cookie bag to the neck of the bottle of wine.
