Steps:
- Preheat an oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Stir the hot dogs, Cheddar cheese, relish, ketchup, mustard, and onion together in a bowl; spoon into the hot dog buns. Wrap each sandwich in aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven until hot, about 20 minutes. Serve immediately.

What a hamburger bun should be. Substantial enough to handle a big burger with lots of toppings and yet have an excellent flavor all of its own. This is more like the kind of bun you'd get with a gourmet hamburger in a restaurant. If you are looking for one like grocery store buns, light and fluffy, these aren't what you are looking for. (And yes, it really does call for 1 cup of oil)

Steps:
- Dissolve yeast in water with a pinch of sugar.
- Mix in with other ingredients.
- Knead for 10 minutes on a floured surface.
- Let rise until doubled in bulk (about 45 minutes).
- Punch down and let rise again.
- Punch down and form into bun shapes (hamburger or hot dog).
- Make them on the small side as they do raise a little more when you bake them.
- Let rise until double.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Let cool until just warm to the touch; place in a sealed bag to soften crust.
- Makes 16-20 hamburger rolls.
- NOTE: I usually cut this in half.
- Double wrap and freeze any remaining ones.

- Preheat a sandwich press or grill pan over medium. Add hot dogs and cook, turning one time, until lightly charred and warmed through, about 4 minutes. If using a panini press, close the press and cook for 2 minutes total. Set aside on a plate. Lay bread on a work surface, cut side up, and spread one half of each baguette with mustard and the other half with ketchup. Top each half with cheese. Arrange hot dogs evenly on top of the cheese on the bottom slice of the baguette. Dollop hot dogs with onions and relish and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Close sandwiches and gently press. Press or grill the sandwiches, flipping one time, until the outside is golden and the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. If using a cast iron skillet or grill pan, use a second pan to press the sandwiches. If using a panini press, close the press and cook for 2 minutes and 30 seconds total. - Flatten hot dog buns with a rolling pin. In a small bowl, stir together butter, garlic powder, and onion powder. Spread all over outsides of buns. In a large skillet over medium heat, sear hot dogs (working in batches if necessary) until charred, 2 minutes per side. Set aside. Place a bun buttered-side down in skillet and top with 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese, a hot dog, a little more cheddar cheese, and 1/4 of green onions. Cover and cook over medium heat until cheese melts, then use a spatula to close the bun. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 4 cheese dogs total.
