This hamburger gravy is an old favorite to many of us , who remember the ground beef over rice or mashed instant potatoes of the good ol' days...LOL Photo from Betty Crocker-not the recipe though.

1 pound(s) ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoon(s) worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoon(s) all purpose flour
2 cup(s) milk
- salt and pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
serve over - mashed potatoes, or rice or noodles or toast or biscuits

Steps:

  • Place hamburger and onion in a large skillet. Crumble and cook over medium high heat; add Worcestershire sauce, cook until evenly browned. Remove from heat and sprinkle flour over cooked hamburger. Stir until evenly coated and all the fat is absorbed.
  • Place skillet over medium heat; add half the milk and stir until gravy is thicken . Add remaining milk until desired consistency has been reached and gravy comes to a boil Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  • Note: Sometimes I like to add a can of mushroom soup to this or a can of peas undrained. Great over waffles too!

1 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons all purpose or unbleached flour
1 tablespoon beef-flavor instant bouillon
2 tablespoons steak sauce
2 cups milk

Steps:

  • In large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium-high heat until beef is thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently.
  • Stir in flour, bouillon and steak sauce. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir 4 to 6 minutes or until mixture boils and thickens, stirring frequently. If desired, serve over mashed potatoes or cooked rice.

Shape into four patties. , In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook patties over medium heat until a thermometer reads 160°, and juices run clear, 4-5 minutes on each side. Set aside and keep warm., Combine the flour, water, Worcestershire sauce and remaining soup mix until blended; stir into skillet. Add mushrooms. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, about 5 minutes. Serve sauce with patties and mashed potatoes.

Bob Wian's little ten-stool diner, Bob's Pantry, was in business only a short time in Glendale, California, before establishing a following of regular customers—among them the band members from Chuck Fosters Orchestra. One February night in 1937, the band came by after a gig as they often did to order a round of burgers. In a playful mood, bass player Stewie Strange sat down on a stool and uttered, "How about something different for a change, Bob?" Bob thought it might be funny to play along and serve up Stewie a burger he could barely get his mouth around. So Bob cut a bun into three slices, rather than the usual two, and stacked on two hamburger patties along with lettuce, cheese, and his special sauce. When Stewie tasted the huge sandwich and loved it, every band member wanted his own! Just a few days later, a plump little six-year old named Richard Woodruff came into the diner and charmed Bob into letting him do odd jobs in exchange for a burger or two. He often wore baggie overalls and had an appetite that forced the affectionate nickname "Fat Boy". Bob thought it was the perfect name for his new burger, except the name was already being used as a trademark for another product. So the name of the new burger, along with Bob's booming chain of restaurants, was changed to "Big Boy."
