Shrimp Biryani Recipe | Rice Recipes in English image

Shrimp biryani is a popular variation of traditional biryani. This is very easy to make and give you unique taste of seafood recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 1

• 1 lb Shrimp shelled and deveined • 1 cup Basmati Rice • 1 Medium chopped Onion • 1' Grated Ginger Piece • 2 cloves Crushed Garlic • 2 Green Chillies • 2/3 cup Grated Coconut • 2 tsp Garam Masala • 1 tbsp Lime Juice • 1 tbsp Cashewnuts and Raisins • 2 Bay Leaves • 1/4 cup Ghee or butter • 1 tsp Salt or to taste

Steps:

  • • Soak the rice in normal water for 20 minutes. • Make a fine paste of green chilies, garam masala, ginger, garlic, cashew nuts & coconut. • In a pan heat 3 tablespoons of butter or ghee and add half of the onions and fry until golden brown. • Add the paste to the onions and stir for about 5 minutes. • Add the shrimps and 1/2 tsp salt. Mix well so that all the shrimps are coated with the cooked masala and cook on a low flame for 5 minutes Remove from heat and set aside. • In a separate pan heat 2 tablespoons of butter or ghee and fry the bay leaves and add the remaining onions and fry until the onions are golden brown. • Add the rice and stir fry for about 10 minutes. Add the peas, 1/2 tsp salt and 2 cup of water. • Put the lid on the pan and let it stay for 15 minutes or until the rice is almost done on a low flame. • Preheat the oven to 300°F. • In a serving bowl mix the shrimps and rice together. • Cover the bowl with the aluminum foil. Put it in the oven for about 10 - 15 minutes. • When done add the lime juice and garnish the shrimp biryani with fried cashew nuts and raisins.

Shrimp Biryani otherwise called as prawns biriyani is an one pot rice dish made by cooking rice along with shrimp. The variation includes adding the fried shrimp to rice.

Number Of Ingredients 21

Shrimps(Prawns) - 1 lb
Basmati rice - 2 cups
Onion - 1(thinly sliced)
Green Chilly - 2 (minced)
Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tbsp
Tomato - 2 ( crushed/finely diced)
Lemon - 1
Coriander leaves - handful
Mint leaves - handful (optional)
Chilly powder - 2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Curd - 1/2 cup
Salt - to taste
Cloves - 4
Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
Cardamom - 2 pods
Bay leaf - 1
Star anise - 1
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Oil - 2 tbsp

Steps:

  • Devein and clean the shrimps and rinse with water thoroughly.
  • Add 1 tsp of chilly powder, 1/2 tsp of coriander powder, a pinch of turmeric powder, 1 tbsp of ginger-garlic paste, curd and salt.Toss everything together and keep it aside.
  • Heat ghee and oil in a deep pan and add cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaf, star anise and cloves.
  • Add onions and fry till it becomes golden brown. Add the remaining ginger-garlic paste and green chilly and fry for 2-3 min, until the raw smell disappears.
  • Add the tomatoes along with the rest of the chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and fry till a nice spicy paste is formed.
  • Add part of the chopped coriander leaves saving a part for garnishing. Add chopped mint leaves and fry for another minute.
  • Add the shrimp mixture to this paste and fry for 2 minutes. Overcooking the shrimp will make it rubbery.
  • Put this mixture into a rice cooker along with rice and 3 cups water.Pour the juice of a whole lemon on top.
  • Once the biryani is done, put it into an oven safe tray. Heat it for 10-15 minutes in a 350 degree oven to remove the excess liquid.(optional)
  • Garnish with cilantro and fried shrimp.
