CORN PONE RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT - TASTE OF HOME
My husband's grandmother gave me this corn pone recipe years ago. She always made it with bacon drippings, which is heavenly, but if you're trying to be a little more health-conscious, you can use canola oil or a combination of the two. - Preheat oven to 375°. Add oil to a 12-in cast iron or oven-proof skillet; place in oven. In a large bowl, whisk together all cornmeal, salt and water. Mixture will be thick. Carefully spread mixture evenly in skillet, spooning some of the oil on top of batter. Bake until edges start to brown, about 35 minutes. To serve, break into pieces and serve with butter and honey if desired.

- Preheat an oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Beat the butter, sugar, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt together in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in the sweet potatoes, vanilla extract, eggs, and evaporated milk until evenly blended. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the sweet potatoes are tender, and the top of the pone is golden brown, about 1 hour.

- Add the chicken, bring to a boil and turn heat down to a moderate simmer. In a mixing bowl, stir a cup of the cooking liquid into the peanut butter, a splash at a time, to loosen it. Pour the peanut butter mixture into the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the cabbage and carrots, and simmer 10 minutes.
