Smothered Hamburger Steak Recipe | Allrecipes image

Warning: can become habit-forming and a weekly regular on your kitchen table. Good change of pace from traditional burgers, great served with mashed potatoes or rice. It's so easy to tweak and add your own twist to this meal. Good Southern comfort food.

2 eggs
2 tablespoons minced onion
1 tablespoon beef base
½ teaspoon black pepper
3 slices white bread
2 pounds lean ground beef
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can water
1 dash Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Whisk together the eggs, onion, beef base, and pepper in a bowl. Tear the bread into large pieces, and place into the bowl. Let the bread soak for a few seconds and add the ground beef. Mix the meat into the egg-bread mixture, and form into 8 patties.
  • Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat, and fry the patties until they are browned and the meat is no longer pink in the center, about 8 minutes per side. Set the patties aside.
  • Remove the excess grease from the skillet, and whisk the mushroom soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce together in the skillet until smooth. Place the patties back into the skillet, spoon sauce over them to cover, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook until the sauce is thickened and the flavors have blended, about 20 minutes.

Very easy to make and simmered until it melts in your mouth. The gravy is delicious and goes well with potatoes, noodles or rice. This could also be eaten on a toasted bun, topped with the onions and some of the thickened sauce.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb hamburger
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper
1 medium sliced onion
gravy
1/4 cup flour
2 boneless beef cubes
browning sauce
salt and pepper
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Mix hamburger, 1/4 cup flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Form into 4 square patties and brown. Add onions to pan and Saute. Remove patties and onions from pan. Mix 1/4 cup flour and water in pan. Add beef cubes stir and heat until thickened. Add salt, pepper and a little browning sauce if desired. Add patties and onions back to pan and simmer for 30-45 minutes.
  • Serve with potatoes, noodles, or rice. If sauce is to thick or boils down add a little more water as it simmers.

When Stewie tasted the huge sandwich and loved it, every band member wanted his own! Just a few days later, a plump little six-year old named Richard Woodruff came into the diner and charmed Bob into letting him do odd jobs in exchange for a burger or two. He often wore baggie overalls and had an appetite that forced the affectionate nickname "Fat Boy". Bob thought it was the perfect name for his new burger, except the name was already being used as a trademark for another product. So the name of the new burger, along with Bob's booming chain of restaurants, was changed to "Big Boy."
