Paal kanji (Milk porridge) helps pregnant woman to keep their body cool and energetic always. It is adviced to be consumed after 7th month of pregnancy.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup Boiled rice
4 cloves Garlic
1 cup Milk
3 cm Dry ginger
1 stem Sarana veru
1 tbsp Fenugreek seeds
1/4 cup Palm Jaggery (optional)

Steps:

  • In a pressure cooker add one handful of rinsed boiled rice and fenugreek seeds.
  • Add 1 glass milk.
  • Add 1 glass water.
  • Add 1 whole peeled garlic cloves.
  • On the other hand, crush dry ginger and saranaveru.
  • Put the crushed dry ginger and saranaveru in a white cloth and tie it.
  • Leave the white cloth also in the cooker.
  • Pressure cook for 5-6 whistles.
  • Once done take the white cloth, squeeze it and drink that milk first.
  • Now, mash the kanji.
  • Then add 1 cup of milk to the mashed kanji.

Even now, years after they began drinking it, they still enjoy it during homework, or after coming in from a cold day of play. I, too, have enjoyed it after a long day's work. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons white sugar
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a large mug, stir together the milk, vanilla and sugar. Heat in the microwave on full power for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Stir in nutmeg, and serve hot.
