Best Pulled-Pork Recipe Oven - How to Make Pulled Pork image

This easy pulled-pork recipe cooked in the oven makes the BEST pulled-pork sandwiches. And it takes about half the amount of time than it would in a slow cooker.

boneless pork shoulder

3 tbsp.

packed brown sugar

1 tbsp.

kosher salt

1 tbsp.

smoked paprika

1 tsp.

garlic powder

1 tsp.

onion powder

1 tsp.

ground cumin

Freshly ground black pepper

2 tbsp.

vegetable oil

12 oz.

lager

1 1/2 c.

ketchup

1/3 c.

apple cider vinegar

1/2 c.

Dijon mustard

1/4 c.

brown sugar

2 tbsp.

Worcestershire sauce

Buns, for serving

Steps:

  • Make pork: Preheat oven to 300°. Trim excess fat from pork and cut into large pieces to fit in a large Dutch oven. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cumin, then season with black pepper. Rub all over pork. (This can be done the night before.) In a large Dutch oven over medium high heat, heat oil. Working in batches, add pork and sear on all sides. (Spices can burn quickly so don’t let it go for too long!) Pour beer around pork and cover with lid. Transfer to oven and cook until pork is beginning to turn tender, about 3 hours. Remove lid and cook until pork is very tender and pulls apart easily with a fork, 1 to 2 hours more. Remove pork from Dutch oven and let rest while you prepare barbecue sauce.  Make barbecue sauce: To the pan drippings in the Dutch oven, whisk in ketchup, apple cider vinegar, mustard, brown sugar and Worcestershire. Over medium-high heat, bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer until thickened slightly, about 5 minutes. Shred pork using two forks. Toss shredded meat with about half the barbecue sauce. Serve warm with buns and more barbecue sauce.

3 to 4 pounds boneless pork shoulder
1/4 cup freshly cracked black pepper 
1/4 cup packed brown sugar 
2 tablespoons kosher salt 
2 cups sliced fresh or frozen peaches (about 3 peaches) 
1 cup sweet peach tea 
Texas toast, for serving, optional

Steps:

  • Position an oven rack in the lowest position and preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
  • Cut the pork shoulder fat-side up into 4 quarters, making sure each quarter has some of the fat cap. Mix together the pepper, sugar and salt in a small bowl, then rub all over the pork.
  • Put the peaches in the bottom of a large Dutch oven. Rest the pork fat-side up on top of the peaches. Bake until the pork is very tender and shreds easily, 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Transfer to a large bowl and let rest until cool enough to shred, keeping all the juices in the pot. Shred and reserve.
  • While the pork rests, place the pot with the cooking juices over medium-high heat. Once it starts to bubble, pour in the peach tea and use a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom and sides of the pot. Return to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and let simmer until the sauce is thickened slightly, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the shredded pork back in the pot and toss to combine.
  • Serve the pork with slices of Texas toast if desired.

Lay them in the bottom of a large dutch oven. Generously salt and pepper the pork roast, then set it on top of the onions in the pan. Pour the can of chipotle peppers over the pork (include the sauce.) Pour in both cans of Dr Pepper. Add brown sugar to the juice and stir in.  Place lid tightly on pot, then set pot in the oven. Cook for at least six hours, turning roast two or three times during the cooking process. Check meat after six hours; it should be absolutely falling apart (use two forks to test.) If it's not falling apart, return to the oven for another hour.  Remove meat from pot and place on a cutting board or other work surface. Use two forks to shred meat, discarding large pieces of fat. Strain as much of the fat off the top of the cooking liquid as you can and discard it. Return the shredded meat to the cooking liquid, and keep warm until ready to serve. (You can also refrigerate the meat and liquid separately, then remove hardened fat once it's cold. Then heat up the liquid on the stovetop and return the meat to the liquid to warm up.
    Serve on warm flour tortillas or hamburger buns. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheese, avocado slices, salsa, and whatever else you'd like.
