This delicious, thin apple tart is made easy with Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crust – a classic French dessert recipe.

1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count), softened as directed on box
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 lb Golden Delicious apples, peeled, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F. Remove pie crust from pouch; unroll on lightly floured surface. Roll into 12-inch round; place in 12-inch pizza pan.
  • In small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon cinnamon-sugar over crust. Arrange apple slices spoke-like on crust, working from outside edge to center. Sprinkle apple slices with remaining cinnamon-sugar.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is lightly browned.
  • In small microwavable bowl, mix honey and vanilla. Microwave uncovered on High 40 seconds. Brush honey mixture over tart. Serve warm.

The store-bought puff pastry crust makes prep time shorter and still produces a quality tart.

1 sheet frozen puff pastry (from a standard 17.3-ounce package), thawed
Unbleached flour, for work surface
3 Granny Smith apples
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg yolk, beaten with 1 teaspoon water, for egg wash
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons apple jelly or apricot jam

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Open pastry sheet and remove paper. Fold sheet back up. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out pastry sheet (still folded) to an 8-by-14-inch rectangle. Trim edges with a pizza cutter or sharp paring knife. Transfer to a baking sheet; place in freezer. Peel, core, and slice apples 1/4 inch thick. Toss in a large bowl with sugar.
  • Brush pastry with egg wash, avoiding edges. Use a sharp paring knife to score a 3/4-inch border around pastry (do not cut all the way through). Place apples inside border, and dot with butter. Bake until pastry is golden and apples are tender, 30 to 35 minutes.
  • In the microwave or a small saucepan, heat jelly with 1 tablespoon water until melted. Brush apples with glaze. Serve tart warm or at room temperature, cutting into pieces with a serrated knife.

  • 1. Make the Pecan Crust: Preheat the oven to 375�F. In the bowl of a food processor, pulse the pecans, sugar and sea salt until the nuts are very finely chopped. Transfer to a medium bowl. 2. Stir the butter and egg white into the nut mixture. Press the mixture into the base and up the side of a 9-inch tart pan. 3. Bake until the edge begins to brown, 15 to 18 minutes. Cool completely. 4. Make the Cinnamon Custard: In a medium pot, combine the milk and � cup of the sugar and bring to a simmer over medium heat. 5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and the remaining sugar. Whisk in the egg yolks. 6. Gradually pour a third of the hot milk mixture into the bowl, whisking constantly to combine. Transfer the contents of the bowl into the pot and cook over low heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture bubbles a few times. 7. Immediately remove the mixture from the heat, stir in the ground cinnamon and vanilla extract, and transfer to the cooled crust. Place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the custard and refrigerate until it is set, about 1 hour. 8. Make the Apple Roses: In a medium bowl, combine the lemon juice with 2 cups cold water. Thinly slice the apples and place them in the lemon water. 9. In a small pot, combine 1 cup of the lemon water and the sugar; bring to a simmer. Add the apple slices and remove from the heat. Let the mixture rest until the apples are pliable. 10. To form each rose, roll one apple slice into a tight spiral, place it on top of the tart and arrange other apple slices around it in a slightly curved spiral. Repeat to make roses all over the top of the tart.
