Chai tea lattes are popular (and pricey!) at just about every coffee shop in America, and it’s no wonder why; they are warming, creamy, and always have just the right amount of sweetness and froth. Now, with the help of your immersion blender, you can make your own at home in minutes and for pennies on the dollar!

¾ cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sugar
2 chai tea bags
3 cups boiling water, divided

Steps:

  • Stir milk, vanilla, and sugar together in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar is dissolved; bring to a simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. While the milk simmers, place 1 tea bag into each mug. Pour 1½ cups water over each bag. Steep tea for 2 to 5 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags. Blend milk mixture on High using an immersion blender fitted with the blade attachment until very frothy, 30 seconds to 1 minute; pour over brewed tea. You can also pour the milk mixture into a standard blender and blend on Low, working up to High, until mixture is frothy.

(1") piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced

1/3 c.

packed brown sugar

black tea bags

pure vanilla extract

whole milk

Ground cinnamon, for garnish

Ground cardamom, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a small pot over medium heat, bring spices, sugar, and water to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 5 minutes.  Bring mixture back to a boil, then add tea bags and vanilla and remove from heat. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Remove tea bags then strain tea and discard spices.  In a medium pot over medium heat, bring milk to a simmer. Turn off heat and use an immersion blender to froth milk. To each mug, pour 3/4 cup chai tea and ½ cup warm milk, adjusting amounts according to preference. Top off each mug with milk foam and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and cardamom.
