In the sauce it is 1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning. It will for some reason not show up. Got this from a friend many years ago. Can doctor up with spice when making the meatballs to your liking. I always add fresh garlic to the meat mixture along with a dash of red pepper flakes. The sauce is excellent. Not sure how many it serves exactly. They are one of the first things that go at our parties. I simmer in my crockpot.

2 lbs ground round
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 garlic cloves, minced (not in original recipe) (optional)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (not in original recipe) (optional)
salt and pepper
24 ounces brooks catsup
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
8 -10 ounces apple jelly, small jar
3 tablespoons white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix together all meatball ingredients and roll into balls.
  • Bake on pan with sides such as cake pan or jelly roll pan for 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile mix together all sauce ingredients in large pan on top of stove.
  • Simmer 15 minutes.
  • Once meatballs are baked add to sauce and mix well.
  • Simmer 15 minutes.
  • I like to simmer the meatballs and sauce in my crockpot.

Do all this and you should be able to enjoy a Buca-style meal in the comfort of your home! If it doesn’t turn out quite as you’d hoped, though, our doors are always open during dinnertime for dine-in and carry-out. This recipe is provided by Buca di Beppo?.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 pound ground chuck
1/4 cup shredded parmigiano-reggiano cheese
1/2 cup bread crumbs (preferably italian)
2 large eggs
6 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
8 ounce water
32 ounce authentic marinara sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, combine first 7 ingredients and mix thoroughly. Do not over mix – this will cause the meatballs to become tough. Divide into equal portions and shape into 6 meatballs. Place meatballs on a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Bake until a dark brown crust forms, 13 to 15 minutes.
  • Transfer meatballs to a Dutch oven. Combine marinara sauce and water, and pour over the meatballs. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake until meatballs are cooked through, 35 to 45 minutes. Place the meatballs on a platter. Skim the oil from the top of the marinara and ladle it over the meatballs.
