EGG YOLK PASTRY:
5 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1-1/2 cups shortening
2 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
3/4 cup cold water
FILLING:
5 pounds tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced
4 teaspoons lemon juice
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Whole milk
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder; cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine yolks and cold water. Sprinkle over dry ingredients; toss with fork. If needed, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until mixture can be formed into a ball. , Divide dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of dough to fit a 15x10 x1-in. baking pan. , Sprinkle apples with lemon juice; arrange half of them over dough. Combine the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; sprinkle half over apples. Top with remaining apples; sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture. , Roll remaining dough to fit pan; place on top of filling and seal edges. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Cut vents in top crust. Bake at 400° until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 50 minutes.

1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count), softened as directed on box
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons Montreal chicken seasoning
1 bag (10 oz) frozen mixed vegetables (2 cups)
1 1/2 cups diced cooked chicken
1 cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 8x4-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Unfold crust; place in bottom and up sides of pan. Let edges of crust fall over outside of pan.
  • In 4-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and seasoning; cook and stir 30 to 60 seconds or until thickened. Stir in frozen vegetables and chicken. Stir in broth and whipping cream; heat to boiling, stirring frequently. Cook 1 to 3 minutes or until thickened.
  • Pour into crust-lined loaf pan. Drape crust loosely over filling.
  • Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until filling is bubbly and crust is deep golden brown. Filling will be saucy. Let stand 10 minutes.
