¼ cup butter
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
5 large Granny Smith apples (about 2 1/2 lb.), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add sugar and lemon juice, and cook, stirring constantly with a long-handled wooden spoon, 5 to 6 minutes or until mixture turns a light golden brown. Add apple wedges. Cook, stirring often, 15 to 18 more minutes or until apples are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat; cool 20 minutes.

Steps:

  • Stir together apples, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally; reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 2 to 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

  • For the crust: Prepare an 8-inch round springform pan with nonstick cooking spray. Wrap the outside of the pan with a double layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
