Scented Applesauce-Cinnamon Ornaments Recipe | Allrecipes image

This recipe is meant to be used to make ornaments on wreaths, gifts or to hang on Christmas trees. If fragrance starts to fade, drop a little cinnamon oil on ornament.

Ingredients

3 cups applesauce
3 cups ground cinnamon

Steps:

Mix applesauce and cinnamon together until it is thick enough to hold a form when cut into cookie cutter shapes. Flatten the mixture on a flat surface and cut into cookie cutter shapes.
Place cookie shapes on a cookie sheet to dry for 3 to 4 days depending on the size and thickness of the cookies. If using as a hanging ornament, make hole with toothpick before drying.

Ingredients

3 lbs apples
water

Steps:

Peel, core and quarter apples.
You will need 3 to 3-1/2 pounds per quart of applesauce.
Place in large saucepot.
Cook apples with just enough water so they don't stick.
Cook over medium heat until soft.
Puree in food processor or food mill until smooth.
Return to pan and bring to a boil.
You may add sugar if desired.
Taste to see how sweet the apples are.
You can also add cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice the last 5 minutes of cooking time.
Keep applesauce boiling and ladle hot sauce into hot jars leaving 1/2 inch headspace.
Remove air bubbles and adjust two piece caps.
Process pints and quarts for 20 minutes in a boiling water canner.
If you like chunky sauce, only puree half of the apples and crush the other half with a potato masher.

In a large bowl using a hand mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla, and applesauce until combined. Mix in flour mixture until just combined. Fold in dried cherries and chocolate. Using a large cooking scoop, arrange balls of dough on prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Gently flatten each ball slightly. Top with more chocolate. Bake until golden around edges, about 12 minutes.
