I made this recipe in my Cuisinart® Air Fryer Oven and my brownies wound up with a crispy and crackly top yet soft and gooey in the center. Air frying the brownies cuts the baking time in half and there's no need to preheat your air fryer oven!

½ cup all-purpose flour
? teaspoon baking powder
? teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon powdered sugar, or to taste

Steps:

  • Grease and flour an 8x8-inch square pan.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Beat sugar and butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs until a smooth batter forms. Beat in chocolate and vanilla extract. Stir in the flour mixture until just incorporated; fold in walnuts. Spread batter into the prepared square pan.
  • Place pan in the air fryer basket. Place on the lowest rack in air fryer oven and cook at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 18 to 25 minutes.
  • Cool completely in the pan, about 30 minutes. Cut into 9 squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

With the help of an air fryer, these gooey, fudgy brownies—baked in ramekins and reminiscent of a molten chocolate cake—are less than an hour away. Adding espresso powder to the batter helps bring out the chocolate flavor, as does the crunchy sea salt garnish at the end. Serve them on their own, or with your favorite ice cream. Better yet, top them with berries, whipped cream, chopped nuts or caramel sauce to make a brownie sundae.

Baking spray with flour
¼ cup unsalted butter
1 (4-ounce) bittersweet chocolate bar, chopped (about 2/3 cup), divided
1 large egg
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1?½ teaspoons instant espresso granules
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
? cup (about 1 1/2 ounce) all-purpose flour
? teaspoon kosher salt
Flaky sea salt
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • Coat 2 (8- to 10-ounce) ramekins with baking spray with flour. Fill a medium pot with water to a depth of 1 inch; bring to a simmer over low. Set a medium-size heatproof glass or metal bowl over pot. Add butter and 3 ounces (about 1/2 cup) of the chocolate to bowl. Cook, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat; let cool slightly, about 10 minutes.
  • Whisk egg, granulated sugar, brown sugar, espresso granules, and vanilla into cooled butter-chocolate mixture until well combined, thick, and glossy. Add flour and kosher salt; stir until combined. Pour batter evenly into prepared ramekins (about 1/2 cup batter each).
  • Place ramekins in basket of an air fryer. Bake at 300°F (do not preheat air fryer) until brownie tops and sides are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with some moist clumps attached, 16 to 19 minutes. Remove brownies from air fryer. Sprinkle evenly with remaining chocolate and garnish with flaky sea salt. Let cool 15 minutes for gooier brownies, or 30 minutes for firmer brownies. Serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
