I prefer to make my black eyed peas in a crock pot so the peas stay intact.

1 pound(s) black-eyed peas, dried
3-4 - smoked pork neckbones
1 - onion, chopped
4 clove(s) garlic, chopped fine
1 teaspoon(s) oregano, dried
1 teaspoon(s) thyme, dried
2 - bay leaves, dried
- seasoning salt
- onion powder
- black pepper
1 teaspoon(s) worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Add black eyed peas, neck bones, chopped onion, garlic and herbs to the crock pot. Season lightly with seasoning salt onion powder and black pepper.
  • Fill pot almost to the top and turn crock pot on high and cook for 8-10 hours
  • Remove meat from neck bones and discard bones.
  • When peas are done add Worcestershire sauce taste and season to taste.
  • Serve with rice and cornbread

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 pounds dried black-eyed peas, sorted and rinsed
1 large smoked turkey leg
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped, or to taste
olive oil
1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

Steps:

  • Place peas and turkey leg into a pressure cooker. Stir in onion, garlic, olive oil, pepper, and water to cover. Bring to a simmer. Close and lock lid.
  • Adjust temperature until regulator is gently rocking. Cook at high pressure for 15 to 20 minutes. Let pressure release naturally according to manufacturer's instructions for at least 5 minutes; open lid and add more water if needed. Replace lid and cook until beans are tender, 5 to 15 minutes more. Let pressure cooker cool for about 5 minutes before opening. Remove turkey bone.

  • Rinse neckbones put them in crockpot. Then sprinkle your dry seasonings over the neckbones.Next mix the Worcestershire sauce,liquid smoke seasoning ,soy sauce and french onion soup in a bowl altogether, then pour over neckbones. Cover with lid and cook on low for 10 hrs. When done meat will be tender and fall off the bone. The seasonings will be saturated through and through. Enjoy.
