Sugar Cookie Icing Recipe | Allrecipes image

This sugar cookie icing dries hard and shiny and the colors stay bright. Choose as many different food colorings as you desire.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons milk
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
¼ teaspoon almond extract
assorted food coloring

Steps:

  • Stir together confectioners' sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.
  • Divide into separate bowls, and add food colorings to each to desired intensity. Dip cookies, or paint them with a brush.

3 ounces pasteurized egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In large bowl of stand mixer combine the egg whites and vanilla and beat until frothy. Add confectioners' sugar gradually and mix on low speed until sugar is incorporated and mixture is shiny. Turn speed up to high and beat until mixture forms stiff, glossy peaks. This should take approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Add food coloring, if desired. For immediate use, transfer icing to pastry bag or heavy duty storage bag and pipe as desired. If using storage bag, clip corner. Store in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 3 days.
