LOWERING CHOLESTEROL NATURALLY - 6 TIPS | PRITIKIN ...
This healthy recipe pairs well with just about anything -- salmon, chicken, or game meat like bison and venison. It's also a superb go-to for quick-fix lunches or snacks. Ladle some into whole-wheat tortillas stuffed with crunchy veggies. Pour a cup or two into some chicken or vegetable stock for an easy soup. Or blend a big scoop of your beans and rice with a big bowl of lettuce greens and sliced tomatoes for a filling lunch salad.

Steps:
- Soak beans overnight, rinse, and drain. In a large stockpot, bring to a boil all ingredients for black bean part of recipe, except cilantro. Then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until beans are soft, about 1-1/2 hours.
- When ready to serve, stir in cilantro. Remove chipotle.
- In a large nonstick medium-hot saute pan, saute rice with all ingredients, except water, until garlic starts to brown. Add water & bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until rice is cooked through, about 40 minutes. When done, combine with cooked black beans, or serve separately.
LOW CHOLESTEROL OATMEAL COOKIES | JUST A PINCH RECIPES
I recently was told by the Doc that I need to get my cholesterol down by 30 points in 90 days or I have to start taking statin drugs.......so......cookies have egg yolks and butter.....and they won't help me get to my goal. I made this recipe to accommodate my sweet tooth and maybe even help lower my cholesterol at the same time. Oats are notorious for lowering cholesterol and the Omega-3 in some cooking oils is beneficial too. I don't think anyone will know that these are a healthier choice, unless you tell them.....Lower Cholesterol...here I come.

Steps:
- In a large bowl, beat the egg whites and oil with the salt and sugars.
- Add applesauce, raisins, vanilla, soda, and cinnamon. Stir well.
- Stir in the oats.
- Add flour and mix just until well incorporated.
- Chill dough, covered for an hour or longer.
- Make 1 1/2 inch balls and bake 12 to a sheet in a 375 degree oven (350 in a convection oven) for about ten minutes. Remove from oven a rest on a rack for a minute and then use a spatula to transfer to a rack to cool thoroughly. Store airtight. Makes 36 cookies.
