5 pounds apples (about 15 medium), peeled and chopped
1 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a 6-qt. electric pressure cooker. Lock lid; close pressure-release valve. Adjust to pressure-cook on high for 5 minutes. Let pressure release naturally., Mash apples with a potato masher or use an immersion blender until blended. Serve warm or store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Number Of Ingredients 5

7 medium McIntosh, Empire or other apples (about 3 pounds)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Peel, core and cut each apple into 8 wedges. Cut each wedge crosswise in half; place in a 6-qt. electric pressure cooker. Add remaining ingredients., Lock lid; close pressure-release valve. Adjust to pressure-cook on high for 3 minutes. Let pressure release naturally. Mash apples with a potato masher or use an immersion blender until sauce is desired consistency.

If you feel the applesauce needs some extra sweetness, add a sweetener to taste at the end of cooking. We recommend brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey. Using peeled apples makes this recipe easy, but you can use skin-on apples. If you do, use a food mill fitted with a medium disk to blend the sauce and remove most of the cooked skins for the best texture. If you do not have a food mill, you can puree the skins into the sauce. Or pass the sauce through a mesh strainer to remove the skins. **The cook time for this applesauce is 5 minutes, but keep in mind that the pressure cooker takes additional time to reach pressure before the cooking time begins and release the pressure after the cooking time ends.
