I saw this idea on a number of websites and just had to try it. I love the combination of sweet and salty.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash vanilla extract
3 cups broken pretzels, pieces
2 tablespoons of cold butter

Steps:

  • Place sugar, salt, and pretzel bits in a heavy pan. Cook over high heat, stirring constantly.
  • Coat the preztel bits with browning sugar.
  • Once all the sugar has begun to caramelize, lower the heat to medium. Add butter in small pieces, and throw in the dash of vanilla.
  • Stir for a few minutes until butter is absorbed and pretzels are coated. Spread on a lined or greased cookie sheet to cool.

Chex Mix with a carmel twist I got this recipe from a freind at work and when I tried it at home, it didn't even last the through the next day!

Cook Time 15 minutes

Yield 10 1 cup servings, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 cups crispy wheat cereal squares
4 cups oat squares cereal
1 cup pretzel stick
1 cup mixed nuts
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
6 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375.
  • spray a large shallow pan with cooking spray.
  • Mix cereal, pretzels, and nuts in a large bowl, then place in shallow pan.
  • Combine brown sugar, butter and corn syrup in a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat, bring to a boil. Boil for 4-6 minutes stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat, add baking soda and vanilla. Stir quickly and then pour over cereal mix. Toss cereal mix.
  • Bake in oven 10-15 minutes stirring every 5 minutes until set.
  • Pour onto alumimnum foil to cool. Break large pieces apart.
  • Store in airtight container.
  • Enjoy!

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place the pecan halves in a single layer on a baking sheet and put in the oven for 5 to 6 minutes, shaking the pan once halfway through, until they're lightly toasted. Remove them after they're toasted and put them on a plate to cool. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the pretzels neatly on the pan, then top each pretzel with an unwrapped caramel.
