A friend gave me this recipe for pizza dough. It is quick, easy and delicious!

Yield 1 large crust

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons white sugar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups bread flour, olive oil, salt, white sugar and the yeast mixture; stir well to combine. Beat well until a stiff dough has formed. Cover and rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Turn dough out onto a well floured surface. Form dough into a round and roll out into a pizza crust shape. Cover with your favorite sauce and toppings and bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 20 minutes.

1 recipe pizza dough
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons shredded smoked gouda cheese
3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded Fontina cheese
1 -2 roma tomato, sliced into 1/8 inch rounds
3 ounces buffalo mozzarella (or fresh water-packed mozzarella, cut into 24 1-inch pieces)
1/2 cup shaved romano cheese
2 tablespoons slivered fresh basil

Steps:

  • preheat oven to 425.
  • prepare dough.
  • brush the surface of the the prepared dough with a thin application of olive oil.
  • evenly distribute the cheese over the oiled surface as follows: smoked gouda, mozzarella, fontina.
  • place tomato slices over the cheeses, spaced about 1 inch apart - do not overlap.
  • top the tomatoes with the pieces of buffalo mozzarella followed by the shaved romano.
  • transfer pizza to preheated oven, bake till crust is crisp and golden and center is bubbly, about 15 minutes.
  • remove pizza from oven, sprinkle with basil.
  • slice and serve.

  • Optionally, pre-cook the crust for 4 minutes before adding any sauce or toppings. Remove the crust from the oven and pop any large air pockets that may have formed. Add the sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and your favorite toppings. Continue baking, on the lowest oven rack, rotating the pan half way through so that it cooks evenly, until crust is sufficiently browned and crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the pizza from the oven and slide pizza out of cooking pan onto a large wire cooling rack or cutting board. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a serving pan. This step allows the crust to stay crisp while it cools, otherwise the trapped steam will soften the crust.
