Where are all donut lovers? They are my absolute favorite! I do not know if it is their fluffy texture or the amount of variety, but I have always loved them. I have gone through phases in regards to flavors. There was a time when I preferred donuts filled with custard, another with marmalade, but right now I am a fan of maple donuts. Is anyone else as obsessed as me?

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup pure maple syrup1
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
optional: 1/2 teaspoon maple extract

Steps:

  • Step 1
  • Melt the butter and maple syrup together over medium heat in a small saucepan. Occasionally, give it a stir.
  • Step 2
  • Take away from the heat and add in the powdered sugar, whisking it vigorously.
  • Step 3
  • Taste it. If you would like a stronger maple flavor, add in the maple extract. Set it aside to cool and thicken! Use it once your donuts are also cool.

1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
3 eggs
1 tablespoon honey
½ cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet, or donut baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, mix sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and flour. Mix buttermilk, eggs, honey and butter in a separate medium bowl, and stir into the dry ingredients. Spoon the mixture onto the prepared pan in doughnut shapes.
  • Bake 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown.

Refrigerate, covered, until firm enough to shape, about 1 hour., Divide dough in half. On a floured surface, pat each portion to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a floured 3-in. doughnut cutter., In an electric skillet or deep fryer, heat oil to 325°. Fry doughnuts, a few at a time, until golden brown, 2-3 minutes on each side. Fry doughnut holes, a few at time, until golden brown and cooked through, about 1 minute on each side. Drain on paper towels; cool slightly. If desired, dip doughnuts into glaze or sugar of your choice.
