EASY WITCH HAT COOKIES RECIPE | SOUTHERN LIVING

Easy Witch Hat Cookies Recipe | Southern Living image

These just might be the easiest Halloween treats that you can make for a party. Only requiring four ingredients, our Witch Hat Cookies are better than most. Why? We ditch the store-bought cookie coated in chocolate and topped with even more chocolate for a treat made with Original Ritz Crackers. That swap gives the whole cookie a buttery and salty base with which the semisweet chocolate can intermingle. While you could easily decorate these cookies with icings and sprinkles to give them more color and texture, we think a case can easily be made for the effectiveness of this cookie's simplicity—in addition to looking like a witch's hat, it also has a spookiness that can be attributed to its monochromatic color and smooth texture. Many Halloween treats are packed with orange and black decorations, but these cookies boast a simple shiny brown, hiding a crunchy layer of flaky cracker underneath all of the chocolate. An easy variation to this recipe is to sandwich two crackers together with a thin layer of peanut butter before coating it in chocolate. However you choose to prepare the cracker, rest assured that the visual appeal of this simple cookie will go a long way in determining how many are carried away by curious guests.

Provided by Southern Living

Total Time 25 minutes

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vegetable shortening
20 Ritz Original Crackers
20 Hershey's Kisses, unwrapped

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and shortening together in a microwave-safe bowl by microwaving in 30 second intervals on 30% power, stirring between each interval, until completely melted. Transfer to a wide and shallow dish.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Dip the face of a Ritz cracker into the chocolate, making sure to coat that entire side of the cracker. Lift the cracker from the chocolate, gently wipe away any excess chocolate, and set the cracker on the prepared baking sheet, chocolate-side up. Press a Hershey's kiss into the wet chocolate in the middle of the cracker.
  • Repeat process with remaining crackers, chocolate, and Hershey's kisses. Refrigerate until chocolate is set, about 5 minutes.
