The commercially available hawthorn sticks are sweet and sour, with moderate dryness. I have been wondering how to make it. I have used hawthorn once. Except for the dryness, which is not commercially available, the others are good. Hawthorn is not only good for appetizing, lowering blood lipids, etc. In addition to its effects, it really has the effect of calming the nerves. The red food has the effect of protecting the mind and soothing the nerves. Hawthorn sticks are very good to eat as a snack.

1000 grams Hawthorn
300 grams Sugar
250 grams maltose
400 grams Shimizu

Steps:

  • Wash the hawthorn, remove the pit, and cut open
  • Put hawthorn and sugar in a pot, add water and cook on low heat
  • When the hawthorn is soft, add maltose and continue cooking
  • Cook until the hawthorn is soft and rotten, break it with a stirring rod
  • The degree of fineness is shown in the figure, the stirring rod is not as fine as the wall-breaking machine
  • Put the pureed hawthorn in a pan, stir-fry on low heat, and try to fry until it is dry
  • Put it in a container and let cool thoroughly
  • After cooling, the hawthorn has been condensed into a block, buckled upside down, sliced and cut into strips
  • Hawthorn sticks are placed in the baking tray, it would be better to put them directly on the wire rack
  • Put the baking tray in the oven and bake at 100 degrees for an hour
  • It’s quite dry after baking, but it’s not the same as the commercially available ones. It’s dried for another day at room temperature.
  • It needs to be stored in the refrigerator with a fresh-keeping box, without any additions.

Healthy Homemade Hawthorn Jam

1 pound of hawthorn berries
1 cup sugar or more as needed
1.5 cup water
1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Airtight and clean containers

Steps:

  • Wash and rinse your storage containers.
  • Clean the fresh hawthorn berry and then soak in slightly salted water for around 20 minutes. Then wash again and remove the core.
  • Transfer hawthorn into a food processor, add water. Blend until almost smooth but there are some small particles or smooth according to your own taste.
  • Pour the mixture to a sauce pan; add sugar and simmer for around 80 to 100 minutes. Add fresh lemon juice in the middle. Stir from time to time.
  • Pour the jam into the prepared containers. Leave 1/3 of space at the top of each container to allow room for the jam to expand in the freezer.
  • Seal the containers and let the jam sit at room temperature for 24 hours. Then store the jam the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 1 month.
