Button mushrooms are battered and fried in oil for an irresistible snack. These are great for watching sports.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 egg
1 cup water
1 pound button mushrooms, quartered
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and garlic salt. Mix in egg and water until smooth.
  • Heat the oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Test to see if oil is hot by frying a drop of batter. If it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
  • Dip mushrooms into the batter and then place in the hot oil. Fry a few at a time so they are not crowded, until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

This popular delicate recipe is surprisingly easy to make, quite nutritious, and healthy. Among the hundreds of mushroom meals I have cooked in recent years, it remains one of my best successes. You can make it your success too.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups button mushrooms
1 large onion
2 tbsp oil
4 cups vegetable stock
4 tbsp cream
pinch salt

Steps:

  • Chop the onion into small pieces. Heat a medium-sized pot, add oil and the onion. Cook until translucent.
  • In the meantime, slice the button mushrooms. Add them to the pot, cover, and cook until they release all water (about 5 minutes).
  • Take out several slices. You will need them to decorate the meal later.
  • Add the vegetable stock. Rinse up. Cover and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Add the cream.
  • Mix the soup with a hand mixer perfectly.
  • Cook for 1 more minute.
  • Pour the soup into plates or bowls. Decorate with the mushroom slices.
