This is great to make your own croutons for your salads, etc. When you make your own you know what goes into it and you are proud of your accomplishment. You can also add your own flavorings.

Yield 4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

15 slices bread
¼ cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons garlic salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Remove crusts from stale bread slices. Brush bread on both sides with melted butter. Cut bread slices up into small cubes. Sprinkle with garlic salt (if desired). Arrange cubes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 15 minutes or until browned. Let cool. Store croutons in a covered container or plastic bag. Serve in soups or salads.

loaf of crusty bread, cut into 1" cubes (about 6 c.)

2 tbsp.

extra-virgin olive oil

3 tbsp.

butter, melted

3/4 tsp.

kosher salt

3/4 tsp.

freshly ground black pepper

3/4 tsp.

garlic powder

1/2 tsp.

onion powder

2 tsp.

finely chopped rosemary

1/4 c.

finely grated Parmesan 

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, toss cubed bread with oil and butter until evenly coated. Add in salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and Parmesan, and toss to combine until evenly distributed. Divide seasoned bread between two large baking sheets.  Bake until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through, about 15 minutes total. Let cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Make sure the croutons are completely cool before storing.Note: Recommended bread for croutons are any of the crusty loaf varieties, like sourdough, ciabatta, boule, etc.
