Rum flavor comes through nicely in these traditional, no-bake rum balls. I like to make a few dozen at a time and give them to my neighbors for Christmas—Audrey Larson, Bloomington, Minnesota

2-1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers (about 75 wafers)
1 cup ground pecans
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons baking cocoa
1/4 cup rum
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons water
Additional confectioners' sugar or crushed vanilla wafers

Steps:

  • Mix together wafer crumbs, pecans, confectioners' sugar and cocoa. Combine rum, honey and water; stir into crumb mixture. Shape into 1-in. balls. Roll in additional confectioners' sugar or wafer crumbs. Store in an airtight container.

These sweet and fragrant rum-infused sweets are the quintessential Christmas treat rolled in coconut and served up as an edible gift, snack or dessert

250 gram plain biscuits (such as marie)
395 gram can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup (80g) desiccated coconut
1/4 cup (25g) dutch-processed cocoa powder
1 teaspoon finely grated orange rind
1/4 cup (60ml) dark rum
1/2 cup (40g) desiccated coconut, toasted, extra

Steps:

  • Process biscuits until fine crumbs.
  • Transfer crumbs to a large bowl; add condensed milk, coconut, sifted cocoa, rind and rum. Stir well to combine.
  • Roll mixture into walnut-sized balls. Toss balls in extra coconut. Place on a tray; cover, refrigerate until firm.
