Number Of Ingredients 6

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups packed brown sugar
1?½ cups evaporated milk
4 tablespoons butter
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • In a saucepan, combine flour and sugar. Stir in milk, butter, salt and vanilla. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Pour into an unbaked pie shell.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking for 25 minutes.

Brown sugar pie is what you make when you want a little something for dessert but don't have a lot of ingredients. This Southern pie is like pecan pie without the pecans. The smaller bites that bars provide give you just enough of this sweet treat.

Nonstick cooking spray
1?½ cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup cold butter, cut up
3 eggs
3?? cups packed brown sugar
½ cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 13x9-inch baking pan with foil, extending foil over edges. Lightly coat foil with cooking spray.
  • For crust, in a food processor combine flour, granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp. of the salt. Pulse to combine. Add cold butter; pulse until crumbly. Press evenly into the prepared pan. Bake about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • For filling, in a medium bowl lightly beat eggs. Whisk in brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, almond extract, and the remaining 1/2 tsp. salt until combined. Pour over hot crust.
  • Bake about 35 minutes or until filling slightly jiggles when pan is tapped. Cool in pan on a wire rack (filling will continue to set as it cools). Use foil to lift out uncut bars. Cut into bars.
