Everything Bagel Hot Dogs – Recipe Champions image

Yield 2 hot dogs

Number Of Ingredients 27

1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup honey
1 cup water
1 sliced red onion
salt and pepper
1 diced sweet potato
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tbsp dried garlic
1 tbsp dried onions
1/2 tbsp coarse salt
8 oz room temperature cream cheese
juice of half a lemon
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp chopped dill
1 sliced white onion
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tbsp everything bagel seasoning
1 cup cooking oil
2 hot dogs
6 oz smoked salmon
2 hotdog buns
1 egg

Steps:

  • In a saucepan or pot, combine the vinegars, water, honey, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  • Add the sliced red onions to a bowl or mason jar. Cover in the liquid and set aside.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the diced sweet potatoes. Boil For About 10 minutes and drain the potatoes
  • In a frying pan, melt the butter. Add the potatoes and cook for roughly 10 minutes on medium high heat without stirring. While that cooks, make the seasoning.
  • Combine the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic onion, and coarse salt. Season with salt and pepper and stir frequently for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Take the potatoes out of the frying pan and season with some of the everything bagel seasoning.
  • In a bowl of a stand mixer (or you can use a regular bowl and spatula) combine the room temperature cream cheese, sour cream, juice of half a lemon, and salt and pepper. Stir in the olive oil to smooth out the texture. Fold in the chopped dill. Transfer to a squeeze bottle and set aside.
  • Heat a frying pan with the cooking oil.
  • In one bowl, combine the all purpose flour with some of the everything seasoning.
  • In another bowl, add the buttermilk. Dredge the white onions in the buttermilk.
  • Take the onions out of the buttermilk and coat them thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  • When the oil is shimmering, add the onions to the oil and cook for about 5 minutes or until they become golden brown and crispy.
  • Take the onions out and put them on a paper towel. Season with salt.
  • In a bowl, whisk the egg. Coat the hot dog buns with the egg wash, and sprinkle on some of the everything bagel seasoning.
  • Bake in a 400º oven for 5 minutes so the egg can adhere the seasoning to the bun.
  • Fry the hot dogs in a pan until golden brown, about 5 minutes on medium high heat. Set aside when done.
  • Lay out some of the smoked salmon and wrap it around the hot dog. Add the salmon wrapped hot dog to the hot dog bun.
  • Top each hot dog with the dill spread. On the hot dog add the pickled onions, and on the second one, add the fried onions. Garnish with extra dill and enjoy!
