So much easier than making apple pie, this apple tart tosses together in minutes. The smell as it's baking is irresistible! This dessert is incredibly easy, and it is absolutely perfect for fall.

1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count)
2 to 2-1/2 pound baking apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 to 1 cup sugar (depending on tartness of apples)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon flour

Steps:

  • Preaheat oven to 450° F. Place one refrigerated pie crust into 9-inch glass pie dish. (Follow package instructions.) Do not bake.
  • Place peeled, cored and sliced apples into large bowl.
  • In medium bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon and flour well. Pour sugar mixture over apples, and toss to coat all slices.
  • Heap apples onto crust, reserving any remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture at bottom of bowl for later. Fold crust edges over top of apples as far as possible (1-2 inch all around).
  • Using a pastry brush, wet edges and sprinkle with leftover cinnamon-sugar mixture (or plain sugar).
  • Place tart into preheated oven and bake at 450° F for 15 minutes. Turn oven temperature down to 350° F and continue baking an additional 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool on a cooling rack for 30 minutes. Serve warm.

1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count), softened as directed on box
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 lb Golden Delicious apples, peeled, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F. Remove pie crust from pouch; unroll on lightly floured surface. Roll into 12-inch round; place in 12-inch pizza pan.
  • In small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon cinnamon-sugar over crust. Arrange apple slices spoke-like on crust, working from outside edge to center. Sprinkle apple slices with remaining cinnamon-sugar.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is lightly browned.
  • In small microwavable bowl, mix honey and vanilla. Microwave uncovered on High 40 seconds. Brush honey mixture over tart. Serve warm.

Apple tart is my family's favorite dessert. I love it because it makes the house smell amazing and the tart looks so polished and beautiful (taking a few extra minutes to fan out the apples makes it look like it came from a bakery!). This is a French-style apple tart, not an apple pie, meaning a wedge of the tart is thinner and neater than a slice of all-American apple pie. Try it topped with ice cream for that delicious a la mode taste. Rolling the dough for the tart makes for a finer-textured crust, but on many occasions I have simply pressed the crust into place with great results.
