Everyone always raves about this pie. You don't have to make pie crust! You can control the sweetness by the amount of streusel topping you use.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 cups thinly sliced apples
¼ cup orange juice
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt
½ cup butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch pie plate.
  • Mound sliced apples in the pie plate. Sprinkle with orange juice.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Scatter over the apples.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm.

This recipe belonged to my Grandma, she made it often. We love it, comfort food at it's best. Hope you enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 8

10 -12 baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 lb butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 lemon, juice of

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Arrange slices in the bottom of a lightly greased 12x9 pan.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Mix flour and brown sugar.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly and set aside.
  • Syrup: Combine ingredients and stir well.
  • Drizzle half of mixture over apples.
  • Cover with flour mix.
  • Pour remaining syrup over top.
  • Bake at 350 for one hour.

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In the bowl of a food processor, process bread until coarse crumbs form. Transfer to a large baking sheet and spread into an even layer. Toast until golden, 5 to 7 minutes. When bread crumbs are toasted, transfer to a bowl and mix with melted butter and granulated sugar. Toss apples with lemon juice. In a separate medium bowl, stir to combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. To assemble: add half the apples to the bottom of a large baking dish. Top with an even layer of 1/2 the brown sugar mixture and and 1/2 the bread crumbs. Repeat, using remaining ingredients, ending on bread crumbs.  Cover dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake until bread crumbs are golden and apples are tender, 8 to 10 minutes more. Serve hot with ice cream.
