1 cup water
¼ cup soy sauce
5 teaspoons packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey, or more to taste
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ cup cold water

Steps:

  • Combine 1 cup water, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic powder in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until nearly heated through, about 1 minute.
  • Mix cornstarch and 1/4 cold water together in a cup; stir until dissolved. Add to the saucepan. Cook and stir sauce until thickened, 5 to 7 minutes.

½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup red wine vinegar
¼ cup white wine
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix soy sauce, red wine vinegar, white wine, honey, fresh ginger root, garlic and crushed red pepper flakes. Place in an appropriately sized sealed container with desired type of meat. Shake well to coat. Allow meat to marinate in the mixture at least two hours before cooking.

25 yrs ago I worked for a caterer named Helen, who made all her sauces and food from scratch. I always loved comming into the shop when she was making teriyaki sauce. The aroma would make me start salivating...it smelled so heavenly. I recently reconnected with her on Facebook and asked if she still had the recipe. She has since misplaced it so I had to do an online search for one that had the same wonderful ingredients. Those included saki, fresh ginger, garlic etc. I found one in All Recipes and tweeked it to my tastes. I must say it is pretty close to Helen's recipe. yummm!
