Basic cookies recipe - BBC Good Food image

Bake a batch of these easy cookies with just five ingredients – or fewer. A perfect partner to a cup of tea, you can whip them up in no time

Provided by bendickson

Categories     Afternoon tea, Treat

Total Time 32 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 12 minutes

Yield Makes 25

Number Of Ingredients 5

225g butter, softened
110g caster sugar
275g plain flour
1 tsp cinnamon or other spices (optional)
75g white or milk chocolate chips (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Cream the butter in a large bowl with a wooden spoon or in a stand mixer until it is soft. Add the sugar and keep beating until the mixture is light and fluffy. Sift in the flour and add the optional ingredients, if you’re using them. Bring the mixture together with your hands in a figure-of-eight motion until it forms a dough. You can freeze the dough at this point.
  • Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them slightly apart from each other on a baking sheet (you don’t need to butter or line it). Flatten the balls a little with the palm of your hand and bake them in the oven for around 10-12 mins until they are golden brown and slightly firm on top. Leave the cookies on a cooling rack for around 15 mins before serving.

Vanilla Rich Chocolate Chip Cookies - McCormick image

Flavors of premium vanilla and chocolate blend together to make a wonderful combination in these favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Provided by McCormick

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 8 minutes

Yield 30

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/3 cups butter softened
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
4 tsps McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl. Set aside. Beat butter and sugars in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture on low speed until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts, if desired.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons about 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
  • For a spooky twist this Halloween, turn chocolate chips into spiders! Before baking, press a few extra chocolate chips into the top of each cookie. Remove hot baked cookies from the oven and let stand 2 to 3 minutes. Using a toothpick, draw 8 spider legs on each exposed chocolate chip by pulling the melted chocolate out into squiggly lines.

COPYCAT NABISCO OREO COOKIES RECIPE | TOP SECRET RECIPES
At one time Nabisco actually conducted a study to determined that 50 percent of Oreo consumers twist the cookie apart before eating it. I guess this is important information since it concerns the world's top-selling cookie. Historians at Nabisco aren't sure who came up with the idea for this sandwich cookie back in 1912, but they do know that it was introduced along with two other cookie creations that have long since died. The name may have come from the Greek word for mountain, oreo, which would once have made sense because the first test version was hill-shaped. When the Oreo was first sold to the public, it was much larger than today's cookie, but it kept shrinking over the years until Nabisco realized it had become too small and had to enlarge it again to today's current 1 3/4-inch diameter.  In 1975, Nabisco figured we couldn't have too much of a good thing, so the company gave us Double Stuf Oreos, with twice the filling. But why stop there? Now you're free to pile as much "stuf" on your cookies as you like. Watch this video demo: How to Clone an Oreo Cookie (plus how to make a really BIG Oreo!). 1. Chop up all the fruit, discarding any stones.
    2. Place the fruit in a pan. If using rhubarb, peel the ginger and finely grate it into the pan. Add the sugar – I usually add 3 heaped teaspoons to rhubarb and 2 heaped teaspoons to any other fruit, but just taste as you go along and add more if you think it needs it (please be careful when tasting as it gets really hot). Add 2 tablespoons of water and cook on a medium heat with the lid on.
    3. Once the fruit has softened, remove the lid and let the liquid reduce – you want to end up with a fairly thick consistency.
    4. Serve over cereal, yoghurt, pancakes, granola, muesli or even with roast pork!
