Yield 4 servings (serving size: 3 ounces steak and 3 tablespoons sauce)

Number Of Ingredients 12

½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 pound boneless sirloin steak, trimmed
Cooking spray
1 teaspoon olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
½ cup beef broth
¼ cup hoisin sauce
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon tomato paste
3 teaspoons red wine vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat broiler.
  • Combine first 3 ingredients in a small bowl; sprinkle over steak. Place steak on broiler rack coated with cooking spray. Broil for 6 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  • While the steak is standing, heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic, and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Add the broth and the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes or until thick, stirring with a whisk. Cut steak diagonally across the grain into thin slices, and serve with sauce.

Yield 4 servings (serving size: 3 ounces steak and about 2 tablespoons sauce)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound boneless top sirloin steak (1 inch thick)
1 teaspoon dried thyme
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Cooking spray
8 large garlic cloves, unpeeled
? cup low-salt beef broth
Fresh thyme (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat broiler.
  • Sprinkle both sides of steak with thyme, salt, and pepper. Place steak on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray; arrange garlic cloves around steak. Broil steak and garlic 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness. Transfer steak to a cutting board; cover loosely with foil to keep warm.
  • Cut off bottom of each garlic clove. Squeeze out soft garlic into a food processor; process until smooth. Add broth; process until combined. Transfer garlic sauce to a microwave-safe dish. Microwave at HIGH 40 seconds.
  • Cut steak diagonally across grain into thin slices; spoon garlic sauce over steak. Garnish with fresh thyme, if desired.
