Baked Roast Beef and Provolone "Tea" Sliders on Everything ... image

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) butter, melted, plus additional for buttering baking dish
1 tablespoon poppy seeds 
1 tablespoon sesame seeds 
3/4 teaspoon dried minced garlic 
1/2 tablespoon dried minced onion 
Pretzel salt or kosher salt 
1 package Hawaiian sweet rolls
1 1/2 pounds shaved rare roast beef from the deli counter, preferably a premium brand like Boar's Head 
2 cups crispy French-fried onions 
1 pound sliced sharp provolone
1 cup spicy pickle rounds 

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter the bottom of a 13-by-9-inch baking dish.
  • Stir together the melted butter, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion and 1 teaspoon salt.
  • Without separating into individual rolls, slice the top half of the bread off the bottom. Place the bottom portion of the rolls in the prepared baking dish. Layer the shaved roast beef on top, then the crispy onions, then a layer of provolone, then top with layer of pickles. Place the top section of the rolls on the sandwich stacks. Stir the spiced butter and then liberally brush over the tops of the rolls until entirely coated.
  • Bake, uncovered, until the cheese is ooey gooey and the tops of the rolls are golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Cut into sliders with a large chef's knife.

If the piles of tender roast beef on top of pull-apart Hawaiian rolls don’t get you, surely the combination of caramelized onions, horseradish mayonnaise and Swiss cheese will. Basically, you need this sandwich bake in your life, and you need it now.

1 tablespoon oil
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced (about 4 cups)
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 package (12 oz) 12-count dinner rolls (not pulled apart)
12 oz deli roast beef (about 12 slices)
4 slices baby Swiss cheese (about 3 oz)
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. In 12-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot; cook onions in oil 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until onions are soft and golden brown. If onions start to stick, stir in 1/4 cup water.
  • Meanwhile, in small bowl, mix mayonnaise and horseradish. Slice sheet of dinner rolls in half horizontally; place bottom half in ungreased 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish. Spread cut side of roll top with horseradish mayonnaise. Mound roast beef on each roll bottom. Spoon caramelized onions over beef; top with Swiss cheese. Place top half of rolls over cheese.
  • In small bowl, stir melted butter and parsley until well mixed. Brush over top of rolls. Bake 19 to 22 minutes or until rolls are golden brown and cheese is melted. Cut into individual sliders, and serve.

  • Make caramelized onions: In a large skillet over medium, heat oil. Add onions and season with salt. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally until onions are caramelized and jammy, about 25 minutes. Let cool slightly.  Preheat oven to 350°. Make poppy butter topping: In a medium bowl, combine butter, poppy seeds, garlic, and Worcestershire. Make sliders: Split slider buns in half horizontally and place bottom halves on baking sheet. Spread mayo in an even layer on bottom layer of slider buns, then top with half the ham. Top with Swiss, then remaining ham. Spread ham with honey mustard and onions and close sandwiches. Brush poppyseed dressing on tops of buns until all buns are coated.  Bake until cheese is melty and buns are golden, 10 to 12 minutes.
