This recipe for vanilla simple syrup should be used when making Vanilla Egg Cream.

- Bring sugar and 1 cup water to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat, and cook, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Let cool completely. Stir in vanilla extract.

Steps:
- Put ingredients into a heavy saucepan (this will help it not boil over as easily!).
- Bring to gentle boil, stirring often. (watch carefully that it doesn't boil over!)If it starts to boil over simply pull it off the heat until it calms down.
- Simmer on low for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cool before putting into a container.

- In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter for a couple of minutes until fluffy. On low speed, add in the sifted sugar in two additions. Beat until combined. Add in the milk, vanilla bean paste, and salt, mixing on low speed until incorporated, then increase the speed to medium and beat for a few minutes, until light and fluffy. Add more milk or sifted powdered sugar to adjust the consistency as needed.
