120 grams slivered almonds
180 grams butter (softened)
90 grams icing sugar (powdered sugar)
250 grams plain flour (all-purpose)
1 teaspoon baking powder (sift this into the flour)
30 grams almond meal (ground almonds)
1 egg yolk (room temperature)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon ouzo ((water, milk or orange/lemon/lime juice can also be used))
1 cup icing sugar for dusting

  • Making the cookie dough
  • Shaping the cookies
  • Chill the dough before baking
  • To bake the cookies

These have always been one of my favorites, we only make them at the holidays so they are special. The recipe came from my paternal grandma, who is half Greek.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup walnuts, chopped
powdered sugar, for dusting

Steps:

  • Sift flour once, add salt and sift again.
  • Cream butter until light and fluffy. Add 6 tablespoons powdered sugar and vanilla; mix well. Add flour gradually, stirring until blended. Add nuts; mix well.
  • Shape dough into rolls about 2 1/2 inches long and form into a crescent. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake at 350° 10-15 minutes until delicately browned.
  • Remove from baking sheet onto rack and dust at once with powdered sugar.
