This is a meat and gravy dish taught to me by my late grandfather. This is excellent over egg noodles or rice. I never measure with this recipe, so time and amounts are up to the chef. The left overs are even better!

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb sirloin steak, cubed
garlic salt
pepper
flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large green pepper, Diced
2 cups water, plus
1/4 cup water
1 3/4 ounces brown gravy mix (Aprox weight of two packages)
1 (12 ounce) can beer or 8 ounces red wine
egg noodles or rice, prepared

Steps:

  • Season meat with Garlic salt and Pepper to taste.
  • Dredge meat in flour.
  • Heat oil in pan and brown meat over medium high heat.
  • Add diced green pepper and 1/4 cup water and cover to allow green pepper to steam.
  • Prepare both packages of brown gravy as directed on package. (Usually 1 package plus one cup water, wisked).
  • add gravy and beer or wine. Cover, reduce heat and Simmer.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste while simmering. I usually cook it for 45-60 minutes. Longer if you like your meat more tender.
  • Prepare egg noodles or rice and serve meat mixture over.

This is a terrific family dinner. Tender pieces of steak are sauteed with juicy peppers in a great sauce. Serve with white rice or buttered mashed potatoes, and Italian bread for dipping. This is a really easy dinner. I hope your family will enjoy this as much as mine does.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 green bell peppers, cut into strips
2 red bell peppers, cut into strips
1?½ pounds round steak, cut into strips
1 onion, grated
1 cup crushed tomatoes
½ cup water
3?½ teaspoons white sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir the green and red peppers until tender, about 10 minutes. Remove the peppers from the pan and set aside.
  • Place the steak strips into the skillet with the grated onion, and cook and stir for about 10 minutes, until the steak is evenly browned and no longer pink inside. Return the cooked peppers to the skillet, and stir in tomatoes, water, and sugar. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Simmer over low heat for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the steak is tender and the sauce has thickened.
