3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1/4 cup molasses
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses. Combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. , Roll into 1-1/2-in. balls, then roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° until puffy and lightly browned, 10-12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Quick and easy gingerbread recipe, made with simple ingredients. This old fashioned, classic gingerbread cake is soft, moist, loaded with molasses & spices.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 cup Butter (Unsalted)
1/2 cup Brown sugar
1 cup Molasses (Unsulphered)
1 Egg (Large)
2.5 cups All-purpose flour
1.5 tsp Baking soda
2 tsp Ginger powder
1 tsp Cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp Cloves powder
1 cup Water (Boiling hot)
1 cup Cream cheese frosting (Or whipped cream)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
  • Add molasses and egg and mix until smooth. 
  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. 
  • Dump this dry mixture into the wet mixture and mix until just combined. 
  • Add water very carefully and mix until smooth. Don't burn yourself!
  • Pour batter in a greased and floured square pan (Dimensions 9x9). 
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until an inserted toothpick in the center comes out clean. 
  • Allow it to cool down. Then, cut square slices.
  • Top off each piece with a swirl of cream cheese frosting or whipped cream and enjoy!
