GLAZED HAM SLICES RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT
BESIDES being a great cook, my mom could put a meal together in no time at all. A creative cook, she didn't always measure everything, which made it look so easy. This recipe of hers is quick to put together. The sauce is simple but delicious. We have ham quite often and this is our favorite "leftover" dish. -Leona Luecking, West Burlington, Iowa

- In a skillet, combine the brown sugar, flour, mustard, ginger ale and vinegar. Bring to a boil over low heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and sauce is thickened. Add ham slices and heat through.

- Preheat oven to 500°. Let pickle slices stand on a paper towel until liquid is almost absorbed, about 15 minutes., Meanwhile, in a shallow bowl, combine flour and salt. In another shallow bowl, whisk eggs, pickle juice, cayenne and garlic powder. Combine panko and dill in a third shallow bowl., Dip pickles into flour mixture to coat both sides; shake off excess. Dip into egg mixture, then into crumb mixture, patting to help coating adhere. Transfer to a greased wire rack in a rimmed baking sheet., Bake until golden brown and crispy, 20-25 minutes.

One of the most protected, discussed, and sought-after secret recipes in the food world is KFC's Original Recipe Fried Chicken. Long ago I published my first hack of the famous formula, but the recipe, which was based on research from "Big Secrets" author William Poundstone, includes only salt, pepper, MSG, and flour in the breading, and not the blend of eleven herbs and spices we have all heard about.
