Molasses Cookies with a Kick Recipe: How to Make It image

Here’s my go-to combination of ingredients for the best spice cookies. They’re a natural for fall, but I make them all year long. My mom says they’re her favorite! —Tamara Rau, Medina, North Dakota

Number Of Ingredients 15

3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 large egg, room temperature
1-1/2 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon each ground white pepper, cardamom and coriander
3/4 cup turbinado (washed raw) sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in the molasses, egg and ginger. Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves, cayenne, salt, nutmeg, white pepper, cardamom and coriander; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1-1/2 hours or until easy to handle., Roll into 1-in. balls; roll in turbinado sugar. Place 3 in. apart on lightly greased baking sheets. , Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until set. Cool for 2 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks. Store in an airtight container.

For a new twist on an old favorite, we added the spicy chocolate cinnamon cane sugar blend to this tried-and-true cookie recipe originally submitted by Kim Kenyon of Greenwood, Missouri. It added pleasant cinnamon flavor with lingering warm heat. —Josh Rink, Taste of Home Food Stylist

3/4 cup butter, cubed
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 large egg, room temperature
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons Gustus Vitae spicy chocolate cinnamon cane sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a microwave, melt butter and chocolate; stir until smooth. Beat in brown sugar and corn syrup until blended. Beat in egg. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, spicy chocolate cinnamon sugar and salt; gradually beat into brown sugar mixture. Refrigerate, covered, until firm, about 1 hour., Preheat oven to 350°. In a shallow bowl, mix confectioners' sugar and cinnamon. Shape dough into 1-1/2-in. balls; roll in confectioners' sugar mixture. Place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. , Bake until cookies are set and tops are cracked, 10-12 minutes. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to finish cooling.

KICKED UP OATMEAL COOKIES | JUST A PINCH RECIPES
I usually don't even look at a recipe posted by Emeril Lagasse because almost every recipe of his has garlic in it. Frank is garlic intolerant, so I stay away from garlic completely.
