CLASSIC MARBLE CAKE | HY-VEE



Classic Marble Cake | Hy-Vee image

There's no need to make two separate batters for a marble cake. Simply melt Zoet chocolate bars and mix into a small portion of the vanilla cake batter. Then, just swirl and bake. Oh, and you can't forget about topping it with our Marble Buttercream Frosting!

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 55 minutes

Yield 20

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 c. of Hy-Vee all-purpose flour
2 tsp. of Hy-Vee baking powder
0.5 tsp. of Hy-Vee salt
1 c. of Hy-Vee unsalted butter
0.75 c. of Hy-Vee granulated sugar
0.5 c. of Hy-Vee brown sugar
2 Hy-Vee large eggs
4 large egg yolks
1 tbsp. of Hy-Vee vanilla extract
0.666 c. of buttermilk
1 (3.5-oz.) Zoet 57% dark chocolate bar
1 Recipe Marble Buttercream Frosting

Steps:

  • 1.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray; set aside.

  • 2.

    In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • 3.

    In a large bowl, beat together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed for 1 minute or until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, eggs and yolks one at a time, beating for 30 seconds between each addition.  Beat in flour and buttermilk alternatively being careful not to overmix.

  • 4.

    Pour half of the remaining vanilla cake batter into prepared pan. Dollop ½ cup of chocolate cake batter on top. Repeat with remaining vanilla and chocolate cake batter. Use a knife or skewer to create swirls in cake batter. Do not over mix.

  • 5.

    Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire cooling rack before with Marble Buttercream Frosting.
