Prep Time 40 minutes

Yield 36 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 16

Cookie
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
1 large Land O Lakes® Egg
1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup sour cream
Glaze
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 tablespoon Land O Lakes® Butter softened
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
1 (1-ounce) square bittersweet or semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda in bowl; set aside.
  • Combine sugar and 1/2 cup butter in medium bowl; beat at medium speed 2 minutes or until creamy. Add egg, lemon zest and vanilla; beat until combined.
  • Reduce speed to low; add 1/2 of flour mixture. Mix well. Add sour cream; mix well. Add remaining flour mixture (batter will be thick).
  • Spoon heaping teaspoonful dough, 2 inches apart, onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Let cookies cool on baking sheets 3 minutes; remove to wire rack to cool completely.
  • Combine all glaze ingredients in bowl except milk and chocolate. Beat at medium speed, adding enough milk for desired glazing consistency. Remove 3/4 cup glaze to another bowl. Add melted chocolate; mix well.
  • Spread white glaze on all cookies; let dry. Spread chocolate glaze on other half. If glaze begins to harden, heat in microwave 5-10 seconds.

BLACK AND WHITES RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Black and Whites Recipe - Food.com image

While on vacation this summer I read the book "Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder" by Joanne Fluke. The author included several cookie recipes throughout the book. I want to pass this book on to my partner in the Used Media Swap on Zaar so I am posting the recipe here to try later. If you get a chance to make the cookies before me, please post a review to let us know how good they are. The author did not indicate the serving size so I guessed. I will update when I know exact serving sizes. Please note: Preparation time listed does not include dough chilling time.

Total Time 44 minutes

Prep Time 30 minutes

Cook Time 14 minutes

Yield 36 cookies, 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups chocolate chips
3/4 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour (not sifted)
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar (in a small bowl)

Steps:

  • Do not preheat oven yet - dough mush chill before baking.
  • Melt chocolate chips with butter. (Microwave on high power for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth).
  • Mix in sugar.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in vanilla, baking powder and salt.
  • Add flour & mix well.
  • Chill dough for at least 4 hours (overnight is even better).
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees with rack in middle position.
  • Roll walnut-sized dough balls with you hands (this is messy, you might want to wear plastic gloves).
  • Drop the balls into the bowl of confectioners' sugar & roll them around until they are covered.
  • If dough gets too warm, stick it back into the fridge until you can handle it again.
  • Place the balls on a cookie sheet (12 to a standard sheet works best).
  • Do not flatten - they will flatten as they bake.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes.
  • Let them cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes and then remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.
  • Eat and enjoy.

BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES RECIPE | FOOD NETWORK KITCHEN ...
The black and white cookie is a bakery classic, especially in New York. This recipe delivers a big soft and cakey cookie loaded with vanilla, and topped with thick, sweet vanilla and chocolate icings. There’s actually not a lot of work that goes into these cookies, but be patient and let the icing set to a nice matte finish before serving or storing. They’re worth the wait!

  • Turn the cookies flat-side up. Using a small offset spatula, spread the white icing on half of each cookie, making a straight, clean line in the center of the cookie. Return the cookies to the rack, and let sit, preferably in a cool place, until the icing is firm with a matte finish, at least 30 minutes. Spread the chocolate icing on the other half of the cookies. Let the icing set at room temperature, at least 2 hours and up to overnight.

NEW YORK CITY BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES RECIPE - FOOD.COM
Look to the cookie. These cake-style cookies are a staple in New York City. Growing up we used to buy these all the time and you can still get them in every bake-shop in the city. They were made famous to the rest of the world by an episode of Seinfeld entitled "The Dinner Party". They are more like small cakes than crunchy or chewy cookies, and should be roughly the size of the palm of your hand, if not, bigger. These are great for taking to a potluck, or if you've got a wayward New Yorker around.

  • Turn cooled cookies flat side up, and spread icing with pastry spatula, or butter knife. White over one half, chocolate over the other. The icing does not set solid on these cookies, and does not harden, but it dries enough to be wrapped as they are sold in the city. They can be wrapped individually in cellophane, or sealed in a plastic container.

black-and-white halvah recipe | bon appétit image
Both types of tahini should be roughly the same consistency for this halvah recipe—ideally pretty loose and pourable—which makes it easy to marble them. Most black tahini will be great, but Roland and Whole Foods 365 Organic were the best of the white tahini we tested.

INA GARTEN'S BLACK & WHITE COOKIES RECIPE - PUREWOW
2020 has been rough, to say the least. But without even planning it, Ina Garten brought a little relief: Her newly released 12th (twelfth!) title, Modern Comfort Food, isn’t just a cookbook. It’s a balm to soothe our souls. We’re starting with these black and white cookies, of...

  • 1. Arrange two racks evenly spaced in the oven, and preheat the oven to 350?F. Line two sheet pans with parchment paper. 2. Make the Cookies: Put the butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. With the mixer on low, add the egg and vanilla and mix well, scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a bowl. With the mixer on low, alternately add the flour mixture and sour cream in thirds and mix just until combined. Stir with a rubber spatula. 3. Using a standard (2?-inch) ice cream scoop, place 5 level scoops of batter 2 inches apart on each of the prepared sheet pans. Bake for 10 minutes, then rotate and switch the pans from the top to bottom rack to bake the cookies evenly. Bake until the edges are lightly browned and a cake tester comes out clean, another 6 to 8 minutes. (Don't overbake them!) Cool on the pans for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack set over a sheet pan to cool completely. 4. Make the Glazes: For the chocolate glaze, place the butter, chocolate and coffee in a heatproof bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir the mixture and continue to microwave in 30-second increments until the chocolate is almost melted, allowing the residual heat to finish melting the chocolate completely. Stir the mixture vigorously, until smooth. Turn the cookies so the flat side is up. Hold the cookie in your hand and, with a spoon, carefully pour the chocolate glaze on half of the cookie, forming a straight line down the middle. Allow the glaze to set for 30 minutes. 5. For the vanilla glaze, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and 2 tablespoons of the cream, adding drops of cream until the glaze is smooth, thick and barely pourable. Holding the cookie in your hand, with a spoon, pour the white glaze over the unglazed half of each cookie right up to the chocolate glaze. You can smooth it out with an offset spatula if you need to. Allow to set for 30 minutes. Serve at room temperature. Note: Instead of using a sifter, I place dry ingredients in a coarse wire strainer set over a bowl and tap the side of the strainer with my hand.
