Belgian Red Ale Recipe - BeerCraftr's 1 Gallon Beer Recipes image

Sometimes you just want an easy-drinking pint with a solid (yet restrained) hit of malt character, with a dash of caramel and toasted notes. If you need a break from hoppy beers, try this one out, and enjoy its beautiful colour.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2.25 lbs Maris Otter Pale Malt
4 oz Carmunich Malt
2 oz Aromatic Malt (120L)
1 oz Chocolate Malt
0.25 oz Saaz Hops (60 minutes)
0.2 oz Saaz Hops (15 minutes)
DBelgian Abbey Yeast (Wyeast 1762)
9 litres water

Steps:

  • n1. BIAB Method: Mash grains in water with strike temperature of 163°F for 60 minutes. n2. Mash out, bringing temperature to 168°F, stirring for 7 minutes. n3. Remove grains from pot and bring wort to boil. n4. Boil for 60 minutes, adding hops according to hop schedule. n5. Cool wort to pitching temperature and ferment for 14 days in dark corner. n6. Bottle with 0.6 oz corn sugar. Let beer condition in bottles for 30 days at 65°F
