Almond Crescent Cookies Recipe - Food.com image

These traditional cookies will almost melt in your mouth. To get the proper consistency in these cookies, make sure the almonds are finely ground, not chopped!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup ground almonds
1 cup powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Spray several cookie sheets with cooking spray.
  • With a mixer, beat the butter with sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla extract and almond extract, beat until incorporated.
  • Stir in the flour and almonds. Work flour mixture into a firm dough.
  • Working with 1 tablespoon of dough at a time, lightly roll and then shape it so the middle is thicker than both ends. Bend dough log into a crescent shape.
  • Place on greased cookie sheets and repeat until all dough is used.
  • Bake 12-15 minutes or until light brown.
  • Sift powdered sugar into a small shallow bowl.
  • While the cookies are still warm , roll the crescents in the powdered sugar.
  • Cool on racks.

My grandmother got me started on thie recipe when I was just a little kid. I love to munch on the dough *lol*. It's easy and kids love helping to make it.

Cook Time 30 minutes

Yield 1 cookie

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup of softened margarine or 1 cup butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure or imitation)
3 cups all-purpose flour or 3 cups wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon almond extract (pure of imitation)
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Steps:

  • Mix margarine, egg, vanilla, almond, and powdered sugar.
  • Beat until creamy.
  • Slowly stir in sifted flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
  • Cover and put in the refrigerator for atleast 3 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Get dough into the size of a baseball, flour an area to roll out the dough.
  • Cut into desired shapes.
  • Bake until edges are light brown, 7 to 8 minutes.

Coat bottom of a glass with cooking spray; dip it in sugar. Flatten cookies with prepared glass, dipping glass in sugar again as needed. , Bake until edges are lightly browned, 7-9 minutes. Cool for 1 minute before removing to wire racks., In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, almond extract and enough water to achieve glaze consistency. Tint with food coloring if desired; drizzle over cookies. Sprinkle with almonds.
