This takes awhile and is a labor of love but oh so worth it. These are the kind of cookie i look forward to every Christmas. YUM! (i can't remember how many this makes, so the servings are a guesstimate, as are the cooking times!)

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 20 minutes

Yield 20 cookies, 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 -2 cup walnuts or 1 -2 cup almonds, very finely chopped
powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Beat together butter and 1 cup powdered sugar until thouroughly mixed.
  • add vanilla and almond extracts.
  • stir in flour, salt, and nuts.
  • Roll into balls.
  • Bake at 350 until done but NOT brown. (sorry, i don't know the exact time!).
  • Roll in powdered sugar while hot.
  • Roll again when cold.

My mom has been making these for Christmas ever since I can remember! It's just not Christmas until I make them.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cup(s) butter, softened
4 cup(s) all purpose flour
4 cup(s) walnuts, chopped
1 cup(s) sugar
4 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
1 teaspoon(s) salt

Steps:

  • Cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla til fluffy and light.
  • Mix together flour and salt, and add to creamed mixture. Stir in the nuts.
  • Shape into 1" balls and place 1 1/2" apart on cookie sheet. Bake for 20 min at 325 degrees.
  • Cool on cookie rack and then roll in powdered sugar.
