This delicious New Orleans-style seafood recipe features pan-seared salmon topped with shrimp in a rich Cajun butter sauce. 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on
1 lemon, zested and juiced
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 (6 ounce) salmon fillets, skin-on
salt to taste
4 tablespoons butter or margarine, divided
2 tablespoons chopped Italian parsley

Steps:

  • Place shrimp in a bowl. Add lemon zest, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and paprika to shrimp; toss to coat. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drizzle oil into hot skillet and place salmon fillets, skin-side down, on the skillet. Sprinkle salmon with salt to taste. Depending on the size of your skillet, you might need to work in batches to cook all the salmon. Cook salmon until skin crisps for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip salmon and continue cooking until fish flakes easily or until desired doneness is reached, 3 to 4 minutes more. Transfer salmon fillets to plates and cover to keep warm. Melt butter in the same skillet over high heat. Cook and stir seasoned shrimp in hot butter until pink and cooked through, 2 to 3 minutes. Squeeze lemon juice over shrimp and stir in parsley. Top salmon fillets with shrimp and drizzle pan juices over each fillet. Serve with rice, potatoes, or your favorite veggies.

Salmon New Orleans is a classic dish throughout Louisiana. It features sweet and savory pan-seared salmon that's topped with sizzling shrimp smothered in a rich and exquisitely flavorful Cajun butter sauce. This dish is really simple to make (it's on your table in 30 minutes) but it's so full of flavor and quite filling. Red Lobster offers a similar dish on their menu but adds heavy cream to the sauce, and it's served with pepper-seasoned mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and a bit of pico de gallo. But I think steamed white rice and steamed asparagus would be equally excellent side dishes.

1 pound(s) large shrimp, peeled and de-veined
4 - salmon fillets (about 6- to 8-oz each)
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) black pepper
6 tablespoon(s) unsalted butter, divided (2 tbsp + 4 tbsp)
2 tablespoon(s) honey
CAJUN SEASONING
- zest of 1 small lemon
1 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon(s) sweet paprika
3/4 teaspoon(s) black pepper
3/4 teaspoon(s) white pepper
1/2 teaspoon(s) onion powder
1/2 to 1 teaspoon(s) cayenne pepper (adjust to suit your taste preference)
1/2 to 1 teaspoon(s) crushed red pepper flakes, ground (optional)
1/2 teaspoon(s) dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon(s) dried thyme leaves
GARNISH
1 to 2 tablespoon(s) fresh flat leaf parsley (italian parsley), coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • In a shallow dish, stir together all Cajun seasoning ingredients. Add shrimp and toss until thoroughly coated in the seasoning blend. Set seasoned shrimp aside while you prepare the salmon.
  • Lightly season each salmon fillet with a bit of salt and pepper.
  • Heat 2 Tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add honey and whisk to combine (mixture should be bubbly). Add salmon fillets to skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes, then flip and cook another 4-5 minutes or until salmon is cooked through, flaky, and browned. Transfer salmon to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  • Add remaining 4 Tbsp butter to the same skillet over medium heat. Once butter is melted, stir in the seasoned shrimp, and saute until opaque and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes total, turning frequently to prevent burning.
  • Serve salmon topped with shrimp. Drizzle extra pan sauce over the top of each serving, and garnish with parsley. Serve immediately.
