Yield 6 servings (serving size: 1 patty and 1/3 cup sauce)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (0.8-ounce) slice light white bread, torn into large pieces
1 ½ pounds ground round
2 large egg whites
½ cup chopped onion
Cooking spray
1 (8-ounce) package presliced mushrooms
1 (10 1/2-ounce) can beef consommé, divided
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can golden mushroom soup
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • Place bread in a food processor; pulse 10 times or until course crumbs measure 1/3 cup. Combine crumbs, beef, egg, and onion in a bowl. Shape into 6 (1/2-inch-thick) patties.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat; coat pan with cooking spray. Add patties; cook 5 minutes on each side or until browned. Transfer patties to a platter, and keep warm.
  • Add mushrooms to pan; sauté over medium-high heat 2 minutes. Add beef consommé, reserving 1 tablespoon. Add mushroom soup and pepper; stir well to combine. Add patties. Bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat, cover, and simmer 20 minutes.
  • Combine reserved 1 tablespoon consommé and cornstarch in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk; add to pan. Bring to a boil; cook 1 minute or until thickened.

1 pound lean ground beef
1/3 cup Progresso™ dry bread crumbs (any flavor)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 egg
1 large onion, sliced and separated into rings
1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed beef broth
8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (3 cups)
2 tablespoons cold water
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • Mix beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and egg. Shape into 4 oval patties, each about 3/4 inch thick.
  • Cook patties in 10-inch skillet over medium heat about 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until brown; drain. Add onion, broth and mushrooms. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 10 minutes or until beef is done.
  • Remove patties; keep warm. Heat onion mixture to boiling. Mix water and cornstarch; stir into onion mixture. Boil and stir 1 minute. Serve over patties.

Shape into 2 patties. , In a medium skillet, cook patties until browned, 4-5 minutes per side; drain. Remove to a platter and keep warm. , In the same skillet, saute mushrooms in butter for 2 minutes. Stir in flour; blend well. Add water and bouillon; cook and stir until smooth and thickened. Stir in browning sauce if desired. Return patties to gravy and cook, uncovered, over low heat until heated through, about 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Serve with mashed potatoes. If desired, sprinkle with parsley.
