4 tbsp.

butter, melted

3/4 c.

packed brown sugar

1/3 c.

maple syrup

2 tsp.

pure vanilla extract

1/2 tsp.

Kosher salt

large eggs

2 1/2 c.

whole or chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 9"-x-13" baking pan with cooking spray and line pan with parchment paper. Grease parchment with cooking spray. Prepare brownie batter according to box instructions and pour into pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Keep oven on.  Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Whisk in eggs until combined. Stir in pecans until coated. Top baked brownies with pecan topping, spreading evenly. Return to oven and bake until pecan mixture is set, 20 minutes more. (If you tilt the pan, no liquid should run or be visible.) Let brownies cool completely before slicing into squares and serving.

Worcestershire sauce

pecan halves (about 1 1/2 pounds)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F with racks set in the top and middle positions. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together all ingredients except pecans. Place pecans in a large bowl. Pour butter mixture over pecans, tossing to combine. Spread pecans evenly on 2 baking pans and bake until toasted and fragrant, 12 to 15 minutes, rotating pans halfway through. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined baking pan and let cool completely, 20 minutes. To package, place 1 1/2 cups pecans in each of 4 lined kraft paper bags.

Add syrup and vanilla; beat until mixed. Reduce speed to low; gradually beat in flour, then pecans, just until blended, scraping bowl. Divide dough into 2 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a disk and wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to 3 days. Let stand until pliable enough to roll. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Between sheets of waxed paper, roll 1 disk of dough 1/4 in. thick. Remove top sheet of waxed paper. With 2- to 4-in. leaf-shaped cutters, cut dough into as many cookies as possible. Refrigerate trimmings. Place cookies, 1 inch apart, on prepared sheets. Bake cookies 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer cookies to wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining dough and trimmings. When cookies are cool, brush with syrup to glaze, if desired. Sprinkle sanding sugar over syrup glaze, if desired. Let sugared cookies dry 1 hour. Store cookies (with waxed paper between layers if decorated) in airtight containers at room temperature up to 1 week, or in freezer up to 3 months.
