Whip up this syrup when plums are plentiful in the summer. Use the syrup to make Plum Margaritas, and the plum halves to top yogurt or ice cream.

1 cup sugar
4 small plums, preferably Santa Rosa, halved and pitted

Steps:

  • Bring sugar, 1 cup water, and plums to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat; let stand 20 minutes. Strain and let cool completely. Syrup can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 5 days.

Number Of Ingredients 3

plums - 22 lb (10 kg)
sugar - 2 lb (1 kg)
aspirin - 1 blister pack

Steps:

  • Put a cheesecloth or a dense grid in a large vat and add the washed and cleaned plums . Add 4 gal (15 liters) of water. Boil for about 90 minutes.
  • Then remove the cheesecloth with the plums and leave them to drain well. Pour the syrup into another container and add the sugar. Smash the aspirin well and add it to the syrup. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Pour the finished syrup into bottles while still warm. Cover the bottles with a blanket and leave them overnight.
